Seek Help Early in Relationships

May 3, 2010

Seek help early.

How long have you been in your relationship?  If not in one currently, do you know why things didn’t work out?  John Gottman, PhD has spent decades observing, researching, and interacting with couples and is the figure in relationship stability.   I thought this was very interesting…

“The average couple waits six years before seeking help for marital problems (and keep in mind, half of all marriages that end do so in the first seven years). This means the average couple lives with unhappiness for far too long.” (Gottman Institute)

This means that many couples break-up before even seeking help from a therapist, religious leader or surrounding community.  Is there something eating away at you and how you relate to your significant other?
